The year was 1587, during the reign of King Maha Thammarachathirat, at the border city of Prachinburi... While the royal army was locked in a great war with Hongsawaddy, the Khmer empire of Lovek seized the chance to stab Ayutthaya in the back, pillaging and burning the frontier into ashes. The vanguard of elite Tiger Soldiers fought bravely to hold the line, but were utterly crushed by overwhelming numbers. The Thai lines broke, leaving the battlefield strewn with the fallen. Phra Ratchamanu, the legendary vanguard commander, was severely wounded, forced to swallow the bitterest defeat of his life.
