He defended Ayutthaya beside King Naresuan until the end of the reign. Yet, in the twilight of his life, the hero of a hundred bloody battles chose to cast away all worldly power and titles. Turning toward the holy path, he shaved his head and donned the saffron robe, seeking peace in ordination to dedicate his remaining days to comforting the souls of his fallen comrades.
